Philosophy

I have been reading a book on philosophy recently and it fascinates me. Check out these interesting quotes I found regarding the subject:
  • Get married, in any case. If you happen to get a good mate, you will be happy; if a bad one, you will become philosophical, which is a fine thing in itself. - Socrates
  • Philosophy begins in wonder. And, at the end, when philosophic thought has done its best, the wonder remains. - Alfred North Whitehead
  • All are lunatics, but he who can analyze his delusion is called a philosopher. - Ambrose Bierce
  • To teach how to live with uncertainty, yet without being paralyzed by hesitation, is perhaps the chief thing that philosophy can do. - Bertrand Russell

Philosophy: the rational investigation of the truths and principles of being, knowledge, or conduct. The love of wisdom.

'Philosophy for Dummies'. It's a good one.

For my bloggers

This is a special post for my blogging friends....

(mainly Nichole...since she can't post on my xanga ;)

Snow has begun to fly and as much as I hate bad roads....I love this kind of weather :) I choose to go against the flow and embrace the winter....snow, Christmas, snuggling under the blankets, warm fires, snowmobiles, trees covered in white...*sigh* It's a good time of year!

All good things come to an end...

Our third and final day at the cabin. *sniff, sniff*

Today was absolutely beautiful day. Gorgeous. We serve an amazing God!

So this morning started out with a 5k race. Now, don't get any crazy ideas....just Dad and Nate raced...I was the cheerleader/photographer :) About 20 people turned out for the big race. I started talking with this lady at the finish line as we waited...she was telling me about how good her son was (blah, blah) so I was a little worried 'cause I was hoping that Nate would place 1st or 2nd in his age bracket. Pretty soon (20 mintues after the beginning of the race) I see this Kenyan guy come over the hill...with Nate right behind him! I was so excited! My amazing little brother :) So I was cheering (but not clapping 'cause I had the camera!) and he ended up coming in second place in the whole race!

After that we chilled around the house, had lunch, the guys rested....nothing super exciting. After lunch we took the dirt bikes /4-wheeler out on the trails. I got a lot of good pictures :) The weather was absolutely perfect. I love fall!!!!!

After riding the trails we came back here....watched some football...cooked some burgers on the grill and started a movie. A little into the movie we ditched that whole idea (not a very good one) and played euchre instead. After Dad killed us at euchre (grrrr) we cleaned the cabin for our early departure tomorrow morning. (However, Nate and I are planning a late-night MXC marathon ;)

This trip has been incredible. God has blessed me with an amazing family...

Day 2

Today was amazing.

Wow. I'm not sure what to say! I'm beginning to think that I'm recording the exciting events of this weekend more for myself than anything...I want to remember everything that happened!!!

I didn't sleep in as much today. I got up and cooked breakfast for all of us (Nate did dishes ;). We played euchre (I lost horribly) and Scrabble (I kicked butt!!!) and pretty much just chilled until lunch. Actually, right before lunch the guys went out exploring new trails. I stayed home and got the chili on for lunch and then went on my own little hike! After lunch we all hit the trails! It's so beautiful down here...I don't know how to describe it to you. Sun shining down through the trees, cool breeze, zipping along the trail which runs right beside a little creek. Wow.

I took the 4-wheeler down the steepest hill ever. It was crazy! I'm beginning to see how Daniel O. and Chad and Stephen can do crazy things on their bikes. I was so scared, but it was AWESOME at the same time! Jumping over tree roots, climbing up embankments...it rocked. Coming up the hill was even better. Put it in first, lean up over the handle bars and 'just give 'er' ;) A-mazing.

So let me explain the picture at this point. We were going along this trail and it led into this puddle of water. Dad (who was in the lead) went inbetween these two trees, but the 4-wheeler was too wide! I tried a couple of times, but I wasn't going to fit. So Dad was just like....Go through the water, it'll be fine. So I plow into it. Sometimes when you get in a 'bad situation' if you just hold the throttle down, you'll get out. This wasn't one of those times! I got about 3 feet into the water and SPLOOSH....I was in deep! My tires started spinning (stupid thing has no clearance!) and it was pretty much not a good deal. Dad comes down and first thing he says is 'hand me your camera!' Thanks a lot! Anyway, I ended up pulling out of it and was super muddy...good times. Riding the trails was great...rough at times, but beautiful and challenging!

After the ride we came back to the cabin and Dad and I got cleaned up to head into town. We went to a Fiddlin' and Banjo Pickin' Contest. I love southern Kentucky :) Cute boys driving hick trucks, old men wearing camo coats and even older men in cowboy hats. The banjos and fiddles were amazing. I was tapping right along...as much to the music as to keep warm. Afterwards Dad and I went to this little hole-in-the-wall pool hall/diner for dinner and a game of pool. I lost and that's all we'll say about the pool game. I loved that place though...it had such a homey feel, the people and their southern drawl...I want to go back soon...

Wow, so I've pretty much gone on forever. I better get outta here...we're watching a movie and the view from here is less than adequate ;) I'm headed for the lazy boy...maybe some popcorn....life is good.

Love you guys....thanks for the comments on the last post...makes me feel more at home over here on 'blogspot'.

First day of 'vacation'...

Hello and welcome to my blogspot ;)

I love Kentucky!

Today was super amazing. It looked pretty much like this:
Slept in and ate breakfast. It was chilly out so we took a little trip into town. Dad bought Nate a helmet (we needed a good one) and I bought him some dirt biking gloves (a belated b-day gift...). We rented some movies and headed back to the cabin.

Nate and I made lunch (burgers, etc) and then we just hung out. Dad mowed the lawn...I read a book and Nate listened to some music. Then Dad and I decided to check out these old Civil War battle grounds. It was really cool. We drove around to all these different little placards and read about it. Loved it. We also found this super cool old bridge and played a round of 'Hey Cow'.

When Dad and I got back we all took the dirt bikes and 4 wheeler out. I'm not gonna lie...I was super freaked out 'cause I've never really driven a 4-wheeler with a clutch! Wow....I did some stuff I never thought I could have! Careening down huge hills, plowing through a foot and half of water, running up a culvert, jumping logs and ditches....yeah, it was crazy!!!! I was super wet and muddy when it was over....but it was worth it. I'm actually looking forward to tomorrow :)

So yeah...it's going awesome. Maybe at some point I'll post some pics...tomorrow I'm definitely planning on taking my camera with me on the trails...maybe in a ziploc!
